The finalists and winners of the Community Achievement
Awards for Tasmania will be announced at a special
gala awards presentation dinner on Saturday 23rd October 2010 at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart.
This dinner will be a formal event attended by approximately
330 guests.

Successful businesses are making important economic
contributions to our communities. Creative business
and commercial ventures provide opportunities
for growth, productivity, leadership, training
and employment. Businesses are continuing to realise
their corporate vision and mission in areas such
as product development, manufacturing and construction,
e-commerce, wholesaling, exporting, retailing,
trades and other professional services. The Business
Enterprise Award will acknowledge successful businesses
that also show good corporate citizenship and
that are giving back to the community. |

The Franklin Press Events and Tourism Award recognise the commitment of the entrants who in turn help strengthen ties in all levels within their communities that tourism events take place. The nominated events also present opportunities and new experiences for learning and enjoyment for all those who join in the activities. Income, promotion and many other positive outcomes stem from the inclusion of these organized events and tourism projects within their communities. The Franklin Press Events and Tourism Award spotlight those who are willing to be involved in promoting and developing their communities through events and tourism. |

There are many people in our community who live
with a disability. This Award acknowledges and
salutes those people with a disability who successfully
integrate into the community or overcome difficulty
to become an inspiration to us all. These amazing
and outstanding individuals may have achieved
what most thought would be impossible, overcome
the odds in recovery or rehabilitation or they
may be wonderful community citizens and role models
that make a difference in and for the community.
They may be achieving academically, in sport,
art, in community service, education or be inspiring
others. The Disability Achievement Award will
recognise these amazing and inspirational individuals. |

The Environment and Sustainability Award acknowledges
a proven passion and dedication to reducing environmental
impacts in our State. By implementing environmental
and sustainability practices individuals and groups
show increased commitment to raising awareness,
knowledge and understanding of environmental issues,
which will in turn help to protect the planet’s
vital resources. This Award will recognise individuals,
groups and organisations that aim to improve our
patterns of consumption and environmental behaviour.
They are environmentally conscious and understand
that their actions will encourage sustainable
and responsible development in the future. |

The Volunteering Tasmania Volunteering Award applauds the work of volunteers involving community groups, organisations and businesses that promote and encourage the role of volunteers in our community. Volunteers are integral to the social, cultural and economic development of Tasmania. The role they play is both vital and essential to our society. The Volunteering Tasmania Volunteering Award recognises the importance of supporting volunteers effectively and providing them with a positive volunteering experience that is appropriately utilized, protected and valued. |

The Outstanding Achiever Award applauds our high
achieving individuals who excel in their profession
or chosen field of endeavour. It may be sport,
art, culture, leadership, community involvement,
academia or career. These individuals are at the
forefront of accomplishment and are making a real
difference in the community. They are successfully
achieving their goals through hard work and are
a wonderful role model to all of us. The Outstanding
Achiever Award will pay tribute to our talented
and dedicated high achievers. |

The Primary Industries and Agricultural Award
applauds our unsung heroes and high achievers
working on land or marine farming, forestry and
those primary producers who work tirelessly to
provide us with food, drink and shelter. Primary
industry and agriculture is the back bone of our
regional and rural communities. Our highly diversified
and sustainable natural resources, forestry, dairy,
farming and sheep and cattle industries have a
reputation for products that are internationally
competitive and among the finest in the world.
The Primary Industries and Agricultural Award
presents an opportunity for our community to acknowledge
those who provide us with food and fibre. |

The Community of the Year Award provides projects,
groups, organisations, cities, towns or local
government initiatives with an opportunity to
gain recognition for their achievements and
contributions to their community. These community
groups share a strong sense of community spirit,
which plays a vital role in enhancing the social
and economic prosperity of their community.
It is important to recognise and encourage these
groups and organisations as their efforts help
to make our State a stronger and more vibrant
place to live and will develop and promote true
comradery and community spirit for future generations
to come. |
