The purpose of the Channel 9 Young Achiever Awards is to acknowledge, encourage and most importantly promote the positive achievements of young South Australians aged between 14 and 28 years of age.

The Awards recognise the achievements of South Australia’s youth in nine categories, which are:

Adelaide Airport Limited Community Leadership Award
The Coffee Club Arts Award
Worldwide Online Printing Sports Award
Nippy's Environment Award
Rural Doctors Workforce Agency Rural Health Award
The University of Adelaide Faculty of Sciences Science & Technology Award
Coles Regional Initiative Award

"The Young Achiever Awards recognise and reward the enterprise and excellence of South Australia’s vast array of talented young people.

They provide leadership and inspiration across many fields of endeavour, and their strong sense of community spirit means they are role models for all of us, regardless of age.

Through their efforts and their abilities, they not only make a vital contribution to the ongoing prosperity of our State. They also provide reassurance that South Australia’s future is in safe, capable hands.

As Patron of the Young Achiever Awards, I commend all nominees on their success and accomplishments to date, and wish them all the very best for the future."

General Information:
  1. To enter the Awards program you must first nominate during the call for nomination phase. Each category has three finalists selected with the winner announced at the Awards Gala Presentation Dinner. The evening culminates when one of the nine category winners is announced as the Premier’s/Channel 9 Young Achiever of the Year.

  2. Although all nominees of the program are invited to attend the Channel 9 Young Achiever Awards Gala Presentation Dinner, we request that finalists make every effort to attend. All nominees and finalists are encouraged to bring along family, friends and colleagues to share this special night with them.

Prizes:

The winner of each of the nine categories will be presented with a magnificent trophy and $1,000 from HomeStart Finance. The ultimate winner, the Premier's / Channel 9 Young Achiever of the Year, will receive an additional $1,000 from HomeStart Finance, a trophy and a holiday for two flying Virgin Blue and accommodation provided by Hilton Hotels (conditions apply).

Judging:

Three category finalists are selected for each category award.

From the three category finalists one category winner is selected as the category award winner.

From the nine category winners one is selected as the overall state winner, the Premier's / Channel 9
Young Achiever of the Year for South Australia.

Judging will take place on Thursday 11th February 2010.

The judging panel will include representatives from award sponsors, young people and independent expert judges for each category.

The decisions of the judging panel are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

AWARDS PRESENTATION

The Winners of the Channel 9 Young Achiever Awards will be announced at a special Gala Awards Presentation Dinner to be held on Saturday 13th March 2010.

The Presentation Dinner, held at the Hilton Adelaide is a formal event which attracts an attendance of around 420 people including VIP guests. For further information please contact the awards office on

Adelaide Airport Limited Community Leadership Award
When hard times hit or disaster strikes, our selfless young men and women often make the difference by providing leadership and giving their guidance, encouragement and much needed support. Volunteers and paid not-for-profit and community services staff spend their time offering friendship, hope and inspiration to the disadvantaged and those who need it most. The Adelaide Airport Limited Community Leadership Award applauds our unsung heroes, acknowledging those young people who are passionate in putting the needs of others first.

Coffee Club
The Coffee Club Arts Award
The spirit of creativity exhibited by South Australia’s talented young artists helps us all to think creatively and express ourselves with emotion. In our multicultural society, a commitment to personal development in the arts is emerging, especially among today’s youth. The Coffee Club Arts Award celebrates their brilliant artistic achievements and recognises the incredible imagination, initiative and flair required to produce such inspirational work.

Worldwide Online Printing
Worldwide Online Printing Sports Award
Today's young athletes are tomorrow's sporting heroes. They're dedicated young South Australians with a strong spirit of competition and love of the game. Encouraging and supporting the ambition and hard work of these focused individuals, helps them to go further, faster, longer and higher than anyone before. Whether it's competing, coaching, administration or education, the Worldwide Online Printing Sports Award seeks to applaud their talents and recognise their commitment in the pursuit of excellence.


Nippy's
Nippy's Environment Award
Pollution, climate changes, salinity and the destruction of forests affects us all. While many of us try to make a difference, it is South Australia's young people who are actively using their initiative to stop destruction of our environment and help repair the damage. By developing programs and using new technology, it's these dedicated young individuals who are helping to educate us all. The Nippy's Environment Award salutes those who are dedicated to saving planet Earth by nurturing and protecting our natural surroundings.

RDQA
Rural Doctors Workforce Agency Rural Health Award
The Rural Doctors Workforce Agency Rural Health Award will recognise young people in regional and rural areas who are dedicated to those in need of health services. There are many who passionately and selflessly provide support, guidance, encouragement, assistance or professional services within the health sector. They offer friendship, hope, inspiration and medical or voluntary assistance to the aged, infirmed, sick, injured and home bound. The Rural Doctors Workforce Agency Rural Health Award acknowledges the services, efforts, actions and positive input provided by volunteers, carers and health professionals. These young people create a sense of community spirit, which plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life of those who depend on them.

University of Adelaide
The University of Adelaide Faculty of Sciences
Science & Technology Award

All aspects of our lives are touched by Science in some way or another. Scientific discoveries have the power to make a real life impact on a personal, community and economic level. Young scientists’ work has the power to change lives and our world and their many outstanding discoveries hold the very key to our future. The University of Technology Faculty of Sciences Science and Technology Award recognises and honours the young people behind these intelligent and visionary achievements.

Coles Regional Initiative Award
Australia’s a nation that’s constantly growing and changing. Young South Australians are helping their local communities to achieve this by developing primary industries, manufacturing, tourism and employment opportunities. They’re helping to ensure sustainability and promote positive images of regional South Australia. The Coles Regional Initiative Award acknowledges and rewards those young South Australians who are helping to reshape and inspire their local communities.


Office of Youth

Office for Youth Outstanding Young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Achiever Award
Everybody has a story…Young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander’s are using their stories and life experiences to build up their community and encourage others to strive for their dreams. It is these passionate and dedicated young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander’s who make a difference in South Australia. The Office for Youth Young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Achiever Award is to acknowledge and congratulate the commitment in achieving excellence.

RAA
RAA Driving Force Leadership Award
A driving force, ambition, tenacity and leadership qualities are the key ingredients in the “making” of young community and business leaders and contributors. These young leaders will be at the forefront of contribution in any field of endeavour and may have overcome significant difficulty, adversity or hardship to achieve excellent outcomes. They may simply be putting their heart and soul into making South Australia a better place. The RAA Driving Force Leadership Award will acknowledge young role models who through their driving force, pave the way for others to follow.
